- According to FMB, NMRI and Vitug's "The Politics of Logging", The Philippines was made up of 27.5 million hectares  (92% of the full land area) in the 16th century, when Spanish colonisers arrived. Taking into consideration the American occupation, declaration of Martial Law, the 1986 People Power Revolution and current administration, the country’s forest cover hovered at just under 7 million hectares on average. Unfortunately, other regions of forests used for timer and oil palm plantations did not count as forests in some of the satellite studies (Rappler, 2021).
